Democratic process for electing student representatives and leaders on campus.
The IQAC committee members organized the election campaign on 11th and 12th of November 2021 in line with the proper directions and recommendations for the conduct of student council elections as per the guidelines. The student council election of sacred heart arts and science college is conducted in a democratic way every year and the student council members are elected based on the Academic / Curricular / Co Curricular and other performance of the representatives of all the classes / Section and department of the college.
Sacred heart arts Science college encourages the students to develop skills of good governance. Hence, these elections are organized to help them practice these skills and learn the skill of representation. Hence, the students have an experience in the skills of democratic representation and participation. As per the college norms, Students’ Union is to be established every year and has to elect representatives in various positions.

Though the academic criteria have been prescribed for the candidates to contest, they should not have any academic arrears in any subject. Candidates must posses minimum attendance of 70 percent. Candidates should not have any criminal records i.e. they should not have been tried and/or convicted of any criminal offence or misdemeanor. They would also not have been subject to any indisciplinary actions by authorities. Candidates must be regular, full time students. The candidates violating this rule will be disqualified.
The IQAC cell conducted the election on 13th of November. Before the election, election officer went to the class room and asked for the nominations to be made on the spot. The election officer made sure the eligibility condition of the candidates and then wrote the names of the contestants. Two days were allotted for campaigning. Then on the day of election the Ballot papers were sealed by the election officer and were issued to the students. After that the election officers asked the voters to cast their votes. The voters have to write only one candidate’s name on the ballot paper.
After all the voters present in the room have casted their votes, the election officer asked them to settle down quietly while the ballots boxes were sealed.

The students were excited to choose their leader and were interested in casting their votes to their favorite ones. Discipline and decorum was maintained throughout the voting process. It gave them an unique opportunity to represent their peers and bring about the changes they would like to see at their college, standing in a student election and becoming a students’ union member can significantly boost their career as well.
